SANTIAGO.- Chile's defense strategy for the charges being brought to The Hague by Peru will be based on the existence of agreements signed by both countries that, according to Chancellor Alejandro Foxely, "place a very clear maritime border".

"We maintain that there is no maritime boundary controversy with Peru", Foxely said.

After meeting with President Michelle Bachelet and the presidents of the political parties, the minister confirmed that External Affairs Undersecretary Alberto van Klavere will head the team of experts and lawyers that will represent Chile. Van Klaveren will work with María Teresa Infante, the director of Borders and Limits, as well as Juan Martabit, who is the Chilean ambassador to International Organizations with an office located in Geneva, Switzerland.

Foxely added that the complete list of lawyers and international law experts, Chilean and foreign, that "have embarked on the task" will be revealed later, after Peru fixes a date to appear before the International Court.
