RANCAGUA.- A group of subcontracted workers at the El Teniente mine blocked the Barahona sector of the highway this morning to protest against Codelco.
70 workers belonging to the outsourcing company CIG took part in the demonstration. CIG is currently on legal strike pending negotiations with Codelco.
Unlike previous incidents, this protest did not impede the morning work shift because Codelco had designed a plan for such an event that allows vehicles and workers to enter and exit the area.
Special police forces arrived at the location to reestablish transit. After spotting the police, protesters decided to flee and no arrests were made.
Jorge Sanhueza, Sustainabilty Manager for the El Teniente division, told Emol that the company definitely plans to file a report at the local Public Attorney's Office so that "this type of behavior does not continue".
