SANTIAGO.- The last day of the trial against Chilean-Swedish tenor Tito Beltrán was marked by a testimony, for the first time in public, from the alleged victim. Beltrán is charged with the 1999 rape of a nanny in Sweden.

The young woman's testimony focused on the many repercussions of the alleged rape. She stated that she had lost her ability to concentrate and suffered from stomach problems, as well as nightmares and said that at the time of the incident she lost her faith.

When asked why she had waited so long to take the case to court, the young woman responded with the same reasons she had previously given: she didn't want her parents or classmates to find out and she feared the impact that the high-profile nature of the case would have on her life.

A courtroom testimony was also heard from Bo Gustafsson, Beltrán´'s friend and advisor, and Vicky von der Lancken, one of the producers of the Rhapsody in Rock tour — charges against Beltrán stem from events that supposedly occurred while on the tour.

Beltrán himself also commented on the toll the trial has taken on his career. "I had performances booked until 2011, but now there in nothing", he stated – later adding the trial "has completely destroyed" his career.
