TEMUCO.- Three children died early this morning after being trapped by a fire that destroyed their humble, wooden home located in the rural area of Catripulli, 24 kilometers to the east of Pucón near the international road that crosses into Argentina.

The home, which lacked electricity, caught fire at approximately 1:00 AM after one of the children lit a candle to illuminate their bedroom.

The house belonged to 39 year-old Silvia Padilla Burdile, a separated mother of seven.

The victims have been identified as 4 year-old Matías Alejandro Mora Padilla and his siblings, 9 year-old Fernanda Ester and 11 year-old Rubén Elias.

Two other children, who had been sleeping in an adjacent room, were severely burned and remain hospitalized in Temuco. Their mother, who rescued the two children from the flames, was transferred to Pucón with burns on her arms.
