MONTECARLO.- Argentine player Juan Mónaco and Chilean player Fernando González have been rewarded for their impressive performance at the Viña del Mar tennis tournament, earning themselves the two most significant jumps in the ATP (Professional Tennis Association) "Entrance System" ranking.

After defeating Uruguayan player Pablo Cuevas and without having to play the final match, González was able to snatch first place at the "home tournament", catapulting him 8 ATP ranking positions to number 16 in the world.

Meanwhile, Juan Mónaco jumped 7 spots in the ranking to occupy the world's 14th position. Mónaco had made it to the final round in Viña, but was not able to play at the competition's closing match due to an injury. The bad news is that Mónaco's injury will keep him from representing his country at the Davis Cup this weekend against Great Britain, and it still remains to be seen whether he will be able to compete at the tournament in Buenos Aires, for which he is the defending champion.

Nevertheless, within the "Chilean forces", Nicolás Massú marked the steepest fall in the ranking, after losing to Sergio Roitman during the first round. Massú dropped 27 positions and is now ranked 97th in the world.
