Detective arrested in Maipú after exchanging fire with police

The officer, identified as Guillermo Soto Neira, works at the Police Investigative Headquarters and was arrested along with two other individuals.

SANTIAGO.- Police arrested a member of the Police Investigative unit in the municipality of Maipú after the man was involved in shootout with police officers who were performing an identification check.


The man was identified as Guillermo Soto Neira and works at the Police Investigative Headquarters. He was apprehended in an abandoned lot next to the Autopista del Sol highway along with two other individuals, and fled in an easterly direction after spotting the police.


While the two individuals who had been with him were being detained, Soto began shooting at law enforcement officers and was then pursued by them.


The police officers called for backup and were able to capture and arrest Soto, finding him to be armed with a handgun.


The other two suspects arrested were identified as 22 year-old Luis Hernán Núñez Acevedo and 20 year-old Felipe Andrés Contreras Verdugo.


Juan Antonio Troncoso, the judicial official on call at the time at the Fourth Judicial Office has ordered the Police Crime Lab to conduct necessary investigative procedures and has called for an arraignment to be held for the defendants today.
