Fabio Vío appointed new Chilean ambassador to Paraguay

The diplomat currently holds the position of General Director of Consular Affairs and Immigration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

SANTIAGO. -  A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the Paraguayan government’s approval of the appointment of Fabio Vío Ugarte as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Chile to the country.


Fabio Vío Ugarte is a lawyer and holds a degree in Legal and Social Sciences from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.  Vío is also a graduate of the Diplomatic Academy of Chile, where he worked as a professor.  In addition, he studied at the Political Studies Institute of Paris and is a member of the Chilean Society of International Law.


Fabio Vío has a recognized career in Foreign Service, having previously been the Chilean ambassador to France, Poland and Venezuela successively.


In 1992, Ambassador Vío was appointed Director of Bilateral Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was designated the General Director of Foreign Policy of the Chancellery from 1994 until November of 1997.  Vío also served as a leading member of the Chilean Foreign Policy Council during this time period and was the National Coordinator of the Rio Group as well as the National Coordinator for the Ibero-American Summit.
