SANTIAGO. - Much to the delight of Chilean motorist Carlo de Gavardo, the most difficult and strenuous “off-road” challenge has finally made it to Chile and Argentina. De Gavardo has already ridden his motorcycle in 11 of the previous rallies held in Africa.
-What do you think about the Dakar being held in our country?
“It’s great, because I have participated in the race for 11 years and I have been involved in all aspects of it: healthy and badly injured. I know what it feels like to be there. I think that Chile still hasn’t quite realized the importance of this competition. It is a dream come true that the Dakar be held in Chile and in South America, because not only Chile and Argentina offer a quality race, but all of South America and that is wonderful”.
-Do we meet the demands required to hold a competition of this nature?
“Of course Chile meets the demands, because we have the experience, not only in the realm of sports, but also in the industrial aspect, or rural industries, such as mining, fishing and extreme tourism”.
