Subcontracted labor blocks the highway to El Teniente mine

The protest, executed by approximately 60 workers, has prevented 5 busses transporting company personnel from entering the mine. The busses have been detained on the 5th stretch of the Copper highway.

RANCAGUA. - The latest subcontracted labor protest against the El Teniente division of Codelco is being carried out today at the company mine in Region VI.  


According to preliminary sources, some 60 subcontracted workers blocked the Copper highway close to kilometer 47 in Colón Alto. 


The protest has prevented approximately 5 busses carrying company personnel from entering the mine. The busses have been detained on the 5th stretch of the Copper highway.


Law enforcement officers have arrived at the scene to break up the protest. At this point the process is reportedly being carried out in a non-violent fashion.


An updated communiqué regarding the situation is expected from El Teniente within the next few minutes.
