Police in active pursuit of fugitive police assassins

SANTIAGO. - An intensive police operation that started yesterday and continued through the night persists today in strategic areas of the capital city, principally in the southern zone, where police hope to capture the rest of the individuals implicated in the murder of two uniformed police officers on Tuesday night. The suspects had been robbing the Trendy refrigerator enterprise in Quilicura.

The main target of the search is the group’s ringleader, who has been clearly identified by police and whose name has not been revealed so as not to hamper any leads in the investigation. The search has been concentrated for the most part in the neighborhood of La Pintana. According to police sources, the suspect has a criminal record that includes the armed robbery of a cargo truck as well as one other violent assault.

During yesterday’s investigation, police were able to detain José Antonio Muñoz Vilches, Ervin Rodríguez Ferreiro and Alexander Salas Munita. The first individual was pressed with charges of assault and battery yesterday.  

The arrest of Muñoz Vilches was made possible due to an exhaustive police operation, in which more than 50 officers participated and which was carried out in northern Santiago.
