SANTIAGO. - The minister of the Interior, Edmundo Pérez Yoma, maintained this morning that he was unaware that Police Investigators had carried out a national roundup that resulted in the capture of more than 400 criminals.
“I have not been informed of any roundup at a national level. No, this has not been put into effect”, indicated the secretary of State, denying the existence of a police operation that was executed last night in every region of the country.
This morning the chief of police for the metropolitan region and chief of investigations, Óscar Gutiérrez, made it known that throughout the night “a large scale police operative was mounted throughout the country to detect small micro-trafficking and organized crime operations”.
In the same vein, Pérez Yoma also assuaged critiques of the justice system made by the Police general, José Bernales, and by the undersecretary of the Interior, Felipe Harboe, who stated that some judges have been too quick to release repeat offenders.
