SANTIAGO. - Stepping back into her position after a premature end to her vacation in Atacama, the minister of Education, Yasna Provoste, defended the now resigned Director Alejandro Traverso. He has been the focal point of criticism over irregularities detected in the disbursal of educational subsidies in the Metropolitan Region. She maintains that the Controller’s Office itself had recommended that he stay in his position until the end of the investigation.
“The Director turned in his resignation in 2007 and it was the very same Controller’s Office that suggested he continue to head the organization until the investigation was over” stated Provoste in an interview with Radio Agricultura.
This is her position, in spite of the fact that, last February 4th, the ministry sent an official document to the Secretary of State in which a recommendation was made for Traverso´s removal at the end of the administrative term in June of 2007.
