VIÑA DEL MAR. - As they made their appearance, the crowd wasn’t so sure, but onstage it was only a matter of seconds before doubts were put to rest.

Although the band no longer has all of its original members, Earth, Wind & Fire has not lost its magic. They put on an incredible show last night with a presence and energy that have stood the test of time.

The funk music (noted especially in the percussion and brass instruments) transported the Viña public back to the golden age of disco, led by this group that at this point almost resembles a cover band, but with an authenticity and energy that rang true.

With the audience in grips, the band performed some of their greatest hits such as “Shining Star” and “Boogie Wonderland”, always with the stamp of the vibrant Verdine White, a magnet of attention and excitement.

A piece of trivia: Did the band play “In the Stone”, a song that for decades has served as the opening melody for the Viña del Mar Festival? …..Of course they did!
