SANTIAGO. - On Tuesday it was Audax, on Wednesday it was Universidad Católica and early this Friday, Colo Colo. The “albo” team, in their first game of the Libertadores Cup, lost 3-0 against the forceful Atlas of Mexico.
After the defeat of Audax and Católica, hopes were high for Colo Colo, a four-time champion and the team that had invested the most in players for this season. Their performance could have been worse, the skilled hands of goal keeper Muñoz and player Riffo´s knack for getting the ball out of the goal zone certainly helped, but the end result was still a dissappointment.
A lack of passion and courage, combined with a slow reaction time and a mediocre handling of the ball, left the team with an incredible debt to settle in the rest of the tournament.
The worst plays happened in the backfield. The Chilean team was simply incapable of taking on Bruno Marioni, who was able to escape through every possible hole in the lineup, and Juan Carlos Medina, who came up like lightning at every opportunity to jumble the Colo Colo defense.
