SANTIAGO. -  Despite last week’s disappointing results for the Chilean players (Massú and Capdeville were both eliminated from their respective tournaments in the first round), the three national players have moved up one position in the ATP classification ranking.  Not too bad considering the defeats already suffered during the beginning of the season.

Despite not having played, Chile’s number one player, Fernando González, moved to position number 14 – pushing him closer to the international top ten.

Nicolás Massú appeared in 96th place today, momentarily keeping him in the world’s top 100.

Meanwhile, Paul Capedeville (currently ranked number 106) will play in the first round of the ATP tournament in Memphis in the USA.  Capedeville is set to debut against Swedish player Jonas Bjorkman.

In the ranking’s top ten positions, Spanish player David Ferrer has moved up a position to number 4, coming in after Swiss player Roger Federer, fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Serbian player Novak Djokovic, while Argentine player David Nalbandián has returned to the top ten after winning in Buenos Aires.
