SANTIAGO.- Matías Fernández had been off the field for almost two months.  An injury to his left leg kept him from participating in Villarreal’s final matches at the Spanish tournament as well as the UEFA Cup.

Fernández was back for a win with his team yesterday however, and took a moment to reconnect with the Spanish press.  The player seemed content with the change in club Villarreal´s attitude and demeanor at the match against Athletic.

Concerning his injury, Fernández stated that “it was unfortunate to have been injured for two months because that is a long time for a soccer player. But I am better now and I really want to play.  Truthfully, I never thought that I would start; I am very thankful for that as well as the coach’s confidence in me and I hope to repay him on the field”, he assured.

The Colo Colo player also pointed out the cushion of points gained by Villarreal this weekend, giving the team an advantage.  He warned however, that there is still a long road ahead to the season final.
