SANTIAGO.-  A Hercules aircraft, loaded with over eight tons of supplies to help flood victims in Ecuador  was sent to Guayaquil this morning  by the Chilean government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated that the aid, which hopes to alleviate some of the devastating effects that have been caused by the natural disaster in the country, consists of non-perishable food items, cots, blankets and tents.

The aircraft will be welcomed by the Chilean Consul-General in Guayaquil, Óscar Milet, who will represent the Chilean government in issuing the aid to local authorities currently directing recovery efforts.

Thousands of families have been affected by the torrential rains which, during the last few days, have caused flooding and landslides – especially in Ecuador’s costal provinces.
