SANTIAGO.-  Three children were killed by liquefied gas inhalation on Tuesday inside their home in the town of Santa Emilia de Renca.

The children were discovered at approximately 9:00 AM this morning, when their mother went up to the second floor of the home after she became concerned about a strong gas odor.

After finding her children (10-month old Mirna, three-year old Camila, and 4-year old Felipe) unconscious, the woman immediately called police who arrived at the scene and determined that the children were lacking vital signs.

Two other children belonging to the woman were found inside the residence, located on Eladio Alfaro Street, and were taken to the Renca SAPU medical facility, where they are currently listed in stable condition.

The exact cause of the tragedy is still being investigated by Renca police, along with the Department of Homicide and Public Attorney’s Office.  Preliminary reports however, indicate that the incident was caused by a leak in a liquefied gas tank.
