Fire damages San Ginés Theater in Bellavista

SANTIAGO. -  A fire broke out at approximately 10:00 AM this morning at the San Ginés Theater, located in the neighborhood of Bellavista.

Eight fire-fighting squads from the Santiago Fire Department were dispatched to the scene and have managed to control the flames. 

Traffic along Mallinkrodt Road has been stopped and only two streets are currently open in Bellavista. 

Actor Juan Pablo Sáez, the owner of the theater, was at the property when the fire began.  Sáez suffered injuries to his arm and has been taken to a medical facility.

“All of us who work at the theater were able to escape, it’s just sad because it’s a life’s dream gone up in smoke, but we will have to rebuild it “, the actor told Channel 13.

Juan Pablo Sáez´ father, Julio Sáez, was also injured in the blaze and has been taken to a medical center along with other individuals.

According to the public relations department of the theater, the fire may have been caused by a short circuit.  Two educational facilities are located near the theater, but have not been affected by the flames.
