VALPARAÍSO.-  After announcing the constitutional charges being brought by the Alliance against Minster of Education Yasna Provoste, the House of Deputies proceeded to randomly draw the names of five members of parliament to be charged with evaluating the document—a task that was ultimately delegated entirely to members of the Concertación.

Those chosen were PPD (Party for Democracy) Members of Parliament Jaime Quintana, René Alinco and Eugenio Tuma; Raúl Súnico of the Socialist Party (PS); and Samuel Venegas of the Radical Party (PR).

The names of the 10 representatives filing the constitutional charges against Provoste were left out of the drawing, reducing the odds that a member of the Alliance would be chosen.  The group of members not allowed to participate included current members of the Lower House’s board of directors, Patricio Walker (DC), Marcelo Díaz (PS) and Fernando Mesa (PRSD), as well as Iván Paredes (PS) and Laura Soto.
