SANTIAGO. - Minister of Agriculture Marigen Hornkohl announced a new tool today that will take a weekly measure of the price of fruits and vegetables, allowing consumers to make informed decisions.
The measure will be made up of 20 fruit and vegetable products in the basic consumer basket whose prices will be monitored in four big supermarkets as well as four open markets. During its first phase, the prices will only be registered in the Greater Santiago area.
Hornkohl explained that the project will be implemented by the Office of Agricultural Policies and Investigation (ODEPA) of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture, which will deliver information concerning prices, variety and quality of produce.
Marigen Hornkohl stated that even if there are some variations in prices due to the drought, authorities will support the release of information for consumers.
