SANTIAGO. - After meeting with Minister of Interior Edumundo Pérez at La Moneda this Wednesday, Argentine Ambassador Ginés González García guaranteed that his country stands by their “complete commitment” to the shipment of natural gas to Chile, despite difficulties that may arise.
Upon leaving La Moneda, González commended the “responsible” work done by the bi-national committee over the last few months concerning the matter. The group worked hard to reach an agreement that he deemed “praiseworthy”, because “it is already becoming a reality in Chile”.
When questioned as to whether President Cristina Fernández´ administration will follow the same logic as her husband and predecessor (Néstor Kirchner), favoring internal gas consumption over exports, the ambassador said, ”in Argentina we have two problems: the first problem is the price, because we are buying gas and we don’t have much to spare, so (...) we can’t sell gas at a price lower than what it is purchased for: and secondly there is the issue of volume, of course we wish we had more at our disposal”.
