SANTIAGO. -  After numerous reports from the press stated that the development of nuclear energy for peaceful use would be one of the issues discussed today between Chilean authorities and the United States Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, Chancellor Alejandro Foxely has emphatically stated that this subject “is not on the agenda for the visit”.

“You all know that the development of nuclear energy is not part President Michelle Bachelet´s government program; I was among those who developed the program, and we are very clear about that”, he said.

The chancellor insisted that during previous conversations with the U.S. State Department to prepare for Rice´s visit, the subject of nuclear energy was not mentioned “at any time”.

Minister Foxely clarified that the main objective of Rice´s visit to Chile today is to put together a “major plan of cooperation” between our country and the State of California.
