SANTIAGO.-  The Minister Secretary-General of Government, Francisco Vidal, has accused the Chilean Construction Chamber  (CChC) of lobbying to keep a proposed law that would lower the price of gas by 50 pesos per liter from being passed tomorrow.  The law will also make some small and medium businesses exempt from a tax on official and postage stamps.

The package of measures to be voted on tomorrow in the Senate also includes an abolition of the tax extension benefiting construction companies building houses and apartment buildings worth more that 4 thousand UF – an initiative not supported by the CChC.

Regarding the objection of the CChC, the Vidal stated, “this is an exemption for houses and apartments costing 80 million pesos or more, and don’t start complaining about the middle class, because to be able to access enough credit to buy a house costing 80 million pesos, you must prove that you have a monthly income of 1 million and 800 thousand pesos, and that is not an average middle-class income”.
