SANTIAGO.-  The first meeting between President Michelle Bachelet and the newly-appointed president of the Senate, Adolfo Zaldívar, was marked by a cold formal greeting.  After leaving the meeting, which lasted for almost an hour, Zaldívar assured that he would remain “respectful” and “professional” towards the Executive Branch.

The independent Member of Parliament also stated that the previous differences he had with the government before taking his new position “are in the past, and let other people worry about the past”.

The new leader of the Upper House said that he hopes that he and the Executive Branch will “tend to all that we need to do and that the President´s way of doing things is what takes priority, not dissonant opinions”.

The senator stated that the new board of the Upper House wishes “to take in all the positive aspects of what has been, we are not interested in anything else”.
