SANTIAGO.- The number of viewings continues to soar for a Youtube video of President Bachelet.   The video was featured in a story published by El Mercurio on Sunday commenting on the increased number of hits it has been receiving lately.   In the clip from October of 2005, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet states that the “homemaker’s pension” (an initiative that is now part of her provisional reform) was the most “demagogic” idea she had heard while running for President.

In fact, the number of Internet-surfers accessing the video has doubled in only two days.

The video was uploaded to the Internet on Tuesday, March 11th and was only watched by 14 viewers that day.   By the end of that Friday however, the video had been viewed over 30 thousand times.

The clip is considered to be provocative due to the fact that it demonstrates how the President’s position has changed concerning the possibility of offering a pension to homemakers.   The idea was originally noted as one of the most crucial proposals that Alianza presidential candidate Sebastián Piñera had been planning to implement if he were elected President.
