SANTIAGO.- The Chilean Central Bank has decided to update the design of Chilean-peso bills to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Chile.

The Bicentennial marks a logical juncture to renew the design and security characteristics on the bills which, according to the Central Bank, currently have security characteristics that have been in use for an average of 17 years.

The new bills will be more recognizable, especially for those who suffer from visual impairment.

The Central Bank of Chile plans to share the details of the project as they are developed throughout the different stages of the initiative.
