SANTIAGO.-  Filming of the movie “Quantum of Solace”, the last adventure of Agent James Bond, has not only seduced the city of Antofogasta, but has also enchanted the personnel of the Paranal Observatory – one of the on-site locations for filming of the feature.

The area, located 2,600 meters above sea level houses the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT), which is made up of four individual telescopes measuring 8.2 meters long.  The altitude and extreme dryness of the area create the perfect atmosphere in which to conduct astronomical observations.

A hotel called “Residencia” was built at the observatory base camp to allow people to live and work at Paranal.

Scenes for the movie will be filmed on the landing strip at the Paranal Observatory and in the area surrounding the “Residencia”.

“Quantum of Solace” is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on October 31st of this year, and in the rest of the world on November 7th.
