SANTIAGO.-  On the eve of this year’s commemoration of the “Day of the Young Combatant”, President Michelle Bachelet emphatically stated that there is no justification for the acts of delinquency that are reported every year on this date.

“Democracy is strong in Chile and there is no justification for violence”, said the President.

President Bachelet reminded people that the death of the Vergara Toledo brothers, which happened in the community of  Villa Francia during the 1980´s (deemed “a tremendous tragedy” by Bachelet) “occurred in a non-democratic Chile” expressing that, in her opinion, the best homage that can be paid to them is the defense of democracy.

“A guarantee of democracy, which allows people to non-violently express themselves, is the right path.  I think that would be the best kind of homage to the Vergara Toledo brothers”, she said.
