SANTIAGO. - While referring to the government’s economic policy this morning, Minister of Finance Andrés Velasco asserted “we are not miracle workers, nor are we tailors, it’s not about taking measure after measure”.

The Minister of Finance explained that these processes “do not happen overnight, there is no catapult into development, there are no easy answers to solve the problems”.

During his participation at the business seminar “How is 2008 coming along?”, Velasco said that the energy shortage and drought issues, along with the sub prime mortgage crisis, are going to make the next few months “difficult and volatile” for the national economy.

Velasco said that these conditions will limit economic growth over the next few months.

Additionally, the Minister of Finance explained that growth is not achieved by “all of us moving away from one another”.  “Unity and consensus are the most valuable assets we have”, he added.
