MADRID.- The board of judges in Buenos Aires announced Chilean writer Jorge Edwards as the winner of the second Planeta-Casamérica Iberoamerican Narrative award for his novel, “The House of Dostoievsky”.

Edwards, who is also the author of “Persona Non Grata”, prevailed over Colombian author Fernando Quiroz, who had been nominated as a finalist in this year’s literary competition for his novel “Justos por pecadores”.

The board of judges included Nicaraguan author Gioconda Belli, Chilean author Marcela Serrano and Spanish author Álvaro Pombo, along with leaders from both of the organizations putting on the competition (Miguel Barroso of Casa de América and Ignacio Iraola of Planeta Argentina).  The judges had chosen the works of Edwards and Quiroz to be among the 10 finalists out of a total 557 contestants participating in the event.

The “Planeta-Casa de América Iberoamerican Narrative Award” was created by both institutions as a way to promote narrative writing in the Spanish language throughout all the countries of Ibero-America.

The first competition held for the award featured 618 original works from 22 countries in Latin America and Spain.
