SANTIAGO.- After a surprise announcement by the National Renovation Party proposing a one-million peso fine for deputies who do not participate in Thursday’s session to vote on the commission’s conclusions about the constitutional charge against Minister of Education Yasna Provoste, the leader of the party’s deputies, Osvaldo Palma, has decided to clarify the terms of the initiative.
Palma explained that the idea was presented by National Rennovation Deputies, specifically René Manuel García, and that it was immediately approved by the party’s 20 members of Parliament, headed by Carlos Larraín.
“It was a democratic decision, the party leaders didn’t participate, they found out later. It was proposed by a deputy, he moved that it be voted on by the group and it was approved”, explained Palma.
“If we had a bad attendance record, one might think that this is a way to force something”, said Palma.
