VALDIVIA.-  After notifying police that he had murdered his wife, shot a police officer and was armed and barricaded in his home on Barros Arana Street in the San Pablo neighborhood of La Unión in the Los Ríos region, 45 year-old Pablo Sanhueza decided to commit suicide.

Last night, Sanhueza told his brother in law (a police officer) that he had attacked and killed his wife, Cristina Tapia Bobadilla.  When law enforcement arrived at the home at approximately 10:00 PM, Sanhueza fired shots at 40 year-old police officer Francisco Contreras Agüero.  Contreras is currently listed in serious but not life threatening condition at the Valdivia Base Hospital after receiving shots to the face and one of his arms.

Neighbors were able to rescue the couple’s two children, and took them to their grandmother’s home.
