SANTIAGO. - Although she acknowledged the fact that her party holds no official position on the decision made by the Constitutional Tribunal to prohibit the public distribution of the “day-after pill”, the National Renovation secretary general indicated that she was opposed to the measure, stating that she does not believe in a “paternalistic government”.
“I think the government needs to make transparent, equal and informed guarantees for all people and leave some matters up to them, such as the use of the ´day-after pill´ for adult women”, the ex-member of Parliament said during an interview with Radio Cooperativa.
Lily Perez also stated that she thinks the debate concerning the pill’s distribution is “healthy”, stressing “it is important for everyone to have these kinds of options and to make free and conscientious decisions given their own values, principles and religious practices”.
The RN secretary general clarified that her political party does not hold an official position on the matter, since some members disagree with her standpoint.
