SANTIAGO.-  The minister of Heath, María Soledad Barría, has announced that an investigation will begin at San José Hospital to shine light on the case of a Peruvian woman who gave birth in a bathroom at the medical facility after waiting to be seen by a doctor for two hours.

Barría assured that she has already given the respective orders to have the investigation carried out, saying “we are saddened and concerned about this unbelievable incident and we are going to take appropriate measures”.

“I have already instructed officials to conduct an initial investigation to figure out what happened and who was responsible, as well as the circumstances that led to this, because it cannot happen again”, Barría told Radio Cooperativa.

The minister of Health added that the incident can not be blamed on a lack of personnel since, “generally, personnel are available and if there is no one available at the moment of an emergency, extra support from health services must be called in”.
