SANTIAGO.- After listening carefully to the speech given by Minister of Interior Edmundo Pérez Yoma, in which he proposed the need to establish a national pact to improve State administration, senator and leader of the Christian Democracy party, Soledad Alvear, indicated that she shared the same concerns as the cabinet leader.

“I think the proposal made by the minister of Interior, Edmundo Pérez, is a great one because State modernization is critical and we should start now”, said Alvear.

“We know that in order to make an omelet you have to break some eggs, and this is going to require political will, it’s going to require persistence and the long, medium and short-term projects he mentioned seem imperative to me”, she added.

For Alvear, the most important thing is for the country to “regain a spirit of unity, the civic ethic to work on State projects” stating that she believes “we are all aware that we currently have an old-fashioned State that is not capable of confronting the challenges facing Chile today”.
