SANTIAGO.- “We are currently facing a complex situation” President Michelle Bachelet said just before announcing the issuance of a 20-thousand peso one-time bonus that will support low-income families affected by price hikes during recent months, helping sectors with fewer resources.

According to the President, the aid will help “40% of our country’s Chilean citizens living with limited resources”.  The bonus will be handed out only once, following the publication of a law that will be sent to Parliament by the Executive Branch.

Bachelet indicated that the measure implies a 62 million dollar investment, equal to 28.32 billion pesos.

The President pointed out the subsidy is possible “because we are doing things well in our country” and reminded people that the measure is part of several initiatives established since December of last year, such as the rebate offered on electricity bills.
