GENEVA.- According to a study done by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Latin America falls at the bottom of a worldwide technological development ranking.

The 2007-2008 Global Technology Information Report, which promotes the theme “Fostering Innovation through Network Readiness”, was sponsored by Cisco Systems and included data from 127 different countries.

Only four economies in Latin America and the Caribbean are listed among the top 50 spots of the ranking: Chile (54th), Barbados (38th), Puerto Rico (39th) and Jamaica (46th).

The report says that the three indices used in the study were relatively homogenous for Chile and that a strong government initiative to establish a digital agenda can be seen.

Mexico and Brazil fell a few rankings compared to the previous year’s report, placing the countries at numbers 58 and 59 respectively.
