SANTIAGO.- The commercial operations manager for Metrogas, Mauricio Russo, stated today that the propane gas plant scheduled to be built in Peñalolén will be used only as a “last resort to fulfill supply demands”, since the plant is meant to be a backup plan in case of a residential and commercial gas shortage.

“Fortunately, yesterday’s (Monday) ruling allows us to continue to work on the backup system, which we hope to have finished sometime during this winter”, said Russo.  Nevertheless, he clarified that “new legal hurdles can always arise, in fact one appeal has already been filed, but we are confident and the matter is being addressed in the Courts”.

Russo pointed out that Monday’s ruling gives them a “green light, because it says that the project complies with all current regulations, as well as that required by the environmental impact system”.

Referring to the new appeal, Russo maintained, “we are confident that the criteria they will look at will be similar, because the idea is to continue to make progress as fast as possible”, but reiterated, “we believe the administration has acted in accordance with the creation of the environmental impact reports”.
