SANTIAGO.- Hoping to resolve problems in the system before the winter sets in,  and in response to the problems reported at hospitals in Curepto, Antofogasta and San José, Chile’s national medical association, “Colegio Médico”, has requested that directors of inefficient medical centers to be removed from their positions.

The president of the organization, Juan Luis Castro, indicated during a conversation on Radio Cooperativa that hospital directors who “do not do a good job” should be fired, that there should be more support from human resources and that infrastructural repairs need to be taken care of in a timely manner.

While referring to the issue of directors “who do not do a good job”, Castro alluded to San José Hospital, which is facing numerous problems after a mother waited in vain for two hours to be seen by a doctor and ended up giving birth in a bathroom.

Castro also criticized the “obsolete” infrastructure in hospitals within cities such as Rancagua and Antofogasta, cautioning that “there are areas in the country in need of more doctors and health workers”.
