SANTIAGO.- After raping and robbing a woman in Las Condes the night before last, the assailant (accompanied by two accomplices) proceeded to brag about what they had done in a taxi as they fled the scene of the crime.
The driver of vehicle overheard the men talking about the crime and, after dropping them off in Quinta Normal, went immediately to the Carrascal police station to notify law enforcement.
The cab driver’s statement allowed police investigators to identify Yuri Alfonso Arteaga Cartagena, 23,the main perpetrator in the rape and robbery of a 24 year-old woman with the initials F.G.C. in her apartment on La Macarena Street.
Arteaga had been working as an in-home exotic dancer and was arrested last night at a residence located on José Joaquín Pérez Street.
After being issued a search warrant from Public Prosecutor Ignacio Pinto, the investigative team entered the home where the suspect was still housing some of the artifacts stolen from the apartment in Las Condes.
Police found a wireless telephone, a personal computer, a DVD player, a modem and a suitcase with the name of the victim on it, directly linking the man to the crime.
