Businessman kills his wife then commits suicide in Palena

PUERTO MONTT.- A well-known businessman from Futaleufú, in the province of Palena, was the perpetrator in a new case of “femicide” after he killed his wife and then took his own life.

According to Radio Digital FM, the body of the woman, identified as 53 year-old Juana Troncoso, was found with two gunshot wounds to her body, while her husband, identified as 60 year-old Mateo Toro, appeared to have been killed by a single shot to the temple. 

The body of the man, who was a well-known businessman in the area, was found some 300 meters from the couple’s home.  The gun used in the crime was found inside the house.

A friend of the couple notified police of the incident after he went to visit the home located some 25 kilometers from Futaleufú, in the province of Palena.

For now, the motive behind the dramatic murder-suicide is unknown as police continue to investigate the case that has left the region in shock.
