SANTIAGO.- The president of the Episcopal Conference, Monsignor Alejandro Goic, has criticized the stance held by some municipal leaders, who are planning to authorize distribution of the “day-after pill” despite the ruling issued by the Constitutional Tribunal to prohibit its circulation, calling the situation “serious”.
“I am deeply concerned that there are people willing to disobey a court ruling on a matter of this nature”, Goic told Radio Cooperativa this morning.
The priest explained that if the tables were turned, and the TC ruling allowed for the free distribution of the pill “we probably would have expressed our disagreement, but we would not have been calling to disobey a court ruling, because that is chaos”.
According to Goic, the use of the pill can keep a fertilized egg from “nesting” and can therefore impede the “gestation of a life”, which is why he believes that the drug should not be distributed within the public or private sector.
