SANTIAGO.- After welcoming the Military Commanders-in-Chief of Mercosur countries at the presidential palace, President Michelle Bachelet called on the leaders to look into the development of a common safety and defense policy among Latin American countries.

“Allow me to speak as a former minister of Defense.  I would like to invite you all to consider the notion of going a little further that we have before, a joint effort between the governments and Armed Forces to come up with a common safety and defense policy”, she stated.

“It is possible if we place the trust between our nations above all else”, assured President Bachelet.

According to the Chilean leader, “we are a great many forces working very closely together and I believe that this has been very important and beneficial to the development of trustworthy relationships, of joint efforts between our Armed Forces”.
