SANTIAGO.- The minister of Energy, Marcelo Tokman, has not ruled out the possibility of electrical rationing this year, stating that it will depend on the amount of rainfall during the winter, as well as the extent of energy conservation throughout the country.  Tokman has indicated that, in his opinion, the campaign has been “surprisingly welcomed” by families and businesses.

“When it rains it pours, but unfortunately not with water”, were the words used by the minister to describe Chile’s current situation.

“If the precipitation level is similar to that of last year and consumption remains at its current levels and, at the same time, there is no new failure at an important plant, we should be able to get through the period without electrical shortages”, Tokman told Radio ADN.

“The willingness shown by families and businesses to contribute to energy conservation has been impressive”, added the minister.
