SANTIAGO.- The plants at the Andina and Salvador divisions of the Chilean state-owned mining company, Codelco, remain closed today due to a subcontracted-worker strike. Sources have told Reuters however, that the parties are trying to reach agreements on the matter.

Subcontracted workers for Codelco began a strike one week ago seeking the fulfillment of agreements that were reached with the company during the middle of last year, which brought an end to more than a month of interruptions.

Codelco, meanwhile, asserts that the agreements that were made have already been fulfilled.

“They are still closed with activity suspended” a worker source told Reuters.  A source from Codelco has also confirmed the closure.

Both divisions, which are Codelco´s smallest, have remained closed since Wednesday of last week, when the subcontracted workers began holding protests.
