SANTIAGO.- José Pablo Arellano, CEO of Codelco, has stated that the incidents that have occurred at the copper company are “acts of violence, rather than a strike” due to the fact that protesters have stopped employees who wish to work from doing so.

During an interview with Canal 13, Arellano mentioned that they are not going to expose Codelco workers or sub-contracted workers to acts of violence.  The company has filed charges with the courts concerning past incidents, saying that no more risks and violence can be tolerated and that it is necessary to search for those responsible for these actions.

Arellano also asserted that the sub-contracted workers will be issued an advance payment as an attendance and production bonus, which had been planned since last year.

The CEO pointed out that the companies that offer their services must comply with legal regulations, since they favor companies with labor and union order among workers.
