SANTIAGO.- A young man who died early this morning after falling from the sixth floor of the Edificio Comunidad Barrio Brasil building in the downtown sector of the capital city has been preliminarily identified as 27 year-old Juan Carlos Bastías Baez.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred at approximately 5 AM after the man had an argument with his girlfriend, identified as 32 year-old Karina Salco in the woman’s home at apartment number 614.

Statements issued to the police by neighbors indicate that screaming and door-slamming was heard coming from the apartment early this morning, which may have originated from the couple’s argument.  After the incident, Bastías fell onto the building’s inner courtyard.

Police from Downtown Santiago’s Third Police Station and the Department of Homicide reported to the scene.  The homicide detectives have taken the woman in for questioning. According to neighbors she had been living with Bastías for two years.
