SANTIAGO.- The Supreme Court of the Socialist Party (PS) announced that the third count, which accounts for 78.6% of all municipalities where electoral proceedings are being held, has indicated that the “More Equality for Chile” campaign (lead by current PS president Camilo Escalona) has taken the lead with 58.9% of votes.
The “Grand Alamedas” campaign, headed by Isabel Allende, has come in second with 28.5% of votes, followed by the “Broad Socialist Movement, MAS” with 7.1% and “Table of the left, socialists like Allende” with 6.3%.
The new information has brought about conflict within the party, which will need to determine it’s composition within the next few weeks.
In March, the PS board of directors decided on a new integration system, which states that any campaign with more than 12.5% of votes has the right to be represented in the party leadership.
The party, however, will approve only one vice-president for a group with over 12.5% of votes, while the contending campaign had hoped for two.
