HONG KONG. - The Olympic torch made its way through Hong Kong today without interruptions, although several Chinese sympathizers hurled insults at pro-Tibetan demonstrators and human rights defenders who were forced to seek shelter in police cars.
The pro-China group yelled, “Do you think this is Paris?” to a small group of demonstrators who had peacefully gathered near the area where the march of the torch began.
Another protester, who was carrying a Tibetan flag, had to be protected by police after she was threatened by 30 people who pushed a dozen officials that were trying to protect her.
Near the Hong Kong government palace, actress Mia Farrow lifted up another torch and asked Beijing to help stop violence in Darfur, but did not disrupt the Olympic torch relay.
Despite the incidents, the relay was completed without interruptions. No one attempted to put out the flame being carried by athletes, film stars and socialites amid strict security measures.
Citizens abided by the government request to wear red clothing to support the relay, which took place in a slight drizzle.
